The ALGWA SA Branch proudly presents a series of 'Climbing your Ladder to Success' - 'Step Up’ sessions to celebrate women working or elected in Local Government.

Each 'Step Up' session has a series of speakers sharing their time in Local Government. Cost is $10 per session for ALGWA members, $15 non members.  Sessions commence at 3pm conclude at 5pm.

23 April - Climbing your Ladder to Success 'Step Up' Session at Onkaparinga Council
14 May - Climbing your Ladder to Success 'Step Up' Session at Mt Gambier Council
28 May - Climbing your Ladder to Success 'Step Up' Session at Copper Coast Council
11 June - Climbing your Ladder to Success 'Step Up' Session at Campbelltown Council
25 June - Climbing your Ladder to Success 'Step Up' Session at Charles Sturt Council

25 June - Climbing your Ladder to Success 'The Top Rung' Session at Unley Council

The South Australian Branch of ALGWA provides networking opportunities for those interested in encouraging women’s participation in Local Government.

Branch Activities

The South Australian Branch holds networking meetings, lunches, social functions, business meetings and provides a newsletter and mentoring.

History of ALGWA South Australia

In 1964 Ellinor Gertrude Walker helped form the Australian Local Government Women’s Association South Australian Branch (ALGWA SA). The first President was Elizabeth Furner who became a Councillor for North Brighton Branch.

The South Australian branch was re formed in October 2005 with funding from the Australian Government Women’s Leadership and Development Program provided to the ALGWA National Executive. The Branch has an active Committee with members from metropolitan and rural Councils and other agencies associated with local government. Members include women elected and working in local government.

ALGWA South Australia Aims to;

  • Assist in promoting knowledge of the role and function of local Government;
  • Promote, support and encourage women to participate and be represented in Local Government
  • Promote, support and encourage women to make Local Government a career of choice; and
  • Promote and advocate for the common interests of women who are engaged in, or interested in Local Government.
